Hydroseeding FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my HydroSeeding require watering?
Yes, like any new plant watering especially during establishment is very important. We give you an aftercare regime to follow once we have come in and hydroseeded your lawn. Aftercare is crucial for the best results. It is very important to not let the lawn dry out. If the germinating seedlings dry out, they will die.
What should my ground preparation look like for you to hydroseed, if you do not do it?
Spray the area to be prepared prior to working it up or scraping it off. For best results at least a minimum of 50mm of screened topsoil. A nice level raked finish is great for hydroseeding, unless its very soft leave any rolling till after grass establishment as this can create a hard crust on the surface making it harder for roots to establish.
Is Hydroseesing hazardous to children or pets?
Hydroseeding is a completely safe and non-toxic method of growing grass that is harmless to kids, pets, and the environment.
How long until I can walk on my new lawn?
It is best to stay off it and keep pets off for the first 4 weeks, it is ok to walk on to water, but stay off it if you are leaving footprints.
Can you hydroseed over patchy area’s of lawn?
Yes, re-rake to loosen soil or apply a thin layer of soil to patchy areas before hand. We do charge a minimum for hydroseeding so best for us to come quote first.
Does the green mulch stain?
No, if the mulch gets on any path, fence or house coverings simply wash off with a garden hose.
Will I get many weeds in my lawn?
Unfortunately weeds are inevitable with any existing or imported soils. Screened soil does help but still does not guarantee. We use only certified seed blends that are weed free. Any treatment for weeds we recommend leaving for at least 8-10 weeks. At this point weed and Feed is a good option from your local hardware store.
Would you recommend irrigation?
If the site is not something very small and easily managed then yes. We design irrigation systems to suit, as water is essential to a healthy lawn.
